Our Cabinet Painting Process

01

Walkthrough & Consultation

We begin with a walkthrough to understand your goals, review the condition of the surfaces, and confirm what will be painted. We can also help with color and finish selection to ensure your choices looks right looks right with your home’s lighting and decor.

02

Scheduling & Prep Planning

Once the scope is confirmed, we schedule the project and plan the workflow to keep disruption minimal. This includes room access, drying time, and a clear plan for how the work will progress from start to finish.

03

Protect the Work Area

We protect surfaces surrounding the cabinets with tape, plastic, and paper. Because we are spraying the cabinets, this step needs to be precise.

04

Cabinet Disassembly

In order to access all surfaces, we remove cabinet doors, drawers, hinges, and hardware.

05

Surface Preparation

We wipe everything down with a degreaser to remove contaminants from the surfaces. This is followed by a light but thorough sanding.

06

Prime

We fully prime the cabinets to set the foundation for the finish with good adhesion. It is important to lightly sand the primer after it dries. We use high grit sand papers to make sure our surfaces are smooth.

07

Precison Painting.

We use a low pressure sprayer to apply two full coats of a dedicated, acrylic cabinet paint.
We give the surface a thorough sanding after the first coat of paint. We use high grit sand papers to make sure our surfaces are smooth.

08

Detail Work & Touch-Ups

After each sanding and again during the final clean up, we use a HEPA vacuum to clean dust from the space. Once all of the paint is dry we reassemble the cabinets and put the hardware back on

09

Cleanup & Restore the Space

We clean up the room by removing the tape, plastic, and paper. Then we clean the floors and counter tops first with a vacuum and then mop the floors with a wet Swiffer.

10

Final Walkthrough

We finish with a walkthrough to confirm everything meets expectations.

Frequently Asked Questions for Cabinet Painting

Q. Can kitchen cabinets be painted instead of replaced?

A. Painting cabinets instead of replacing them is a great way to get a whole new look in your kitchen or bathroom and it costs a lot less.

Q. What's the difference betweQn cabinet painting and refinishing?

(No Answer Yet)

Q. Should I paint my cabinets white, gray, or something bold?

Any of those options would be great! A lot of our clients go with an off white or light gray and then do the islands in a bold color. Bold colors have been increasingly popular as well!

Q. Can you paint cabinets without sanding?

A. Sanding is an important part of the preparation process when painting cabinets. The key here is using a very high grit sandpaper. Not only does it make the surface easier for the paint to stick to, it also makes it smoother to the touch as well.

Q. How do pros estimate cabinet painting jobs?

Estimates can be different for a variety of reasons. The biggest difference is going to be in how many cabinets you have. Each door and drawer along with the hardware will need to be removed and then replaced after the process is done. Obviously the more cabinets to be painted, the higher the cost.

Q. How do I clean painted cabinets?

A mild household cleaner or soap and water are usually best for this. Always wait at least 14 days before thoroughly cleaning your freshly painted cabinets. This gives the paint time to “cure “or completely dry.

Q. What should I look for in a cabinet painting contractor?

A. This is an important question. There a lot of contractors that apply paint with a brush and roller leaving behind a stipple or texture that can be difficult to repair. To paint cabinets correctly make sure your contractor is using a low pressure airless sprayer or an HVLP sprayer. It’s also a good idea to make sure they are using cabinet grade products like Sherwin William’s Gallery or Gemini ‘s EVO Waterborne
